Mike Semkiw
Mike Semkiw is a true wildlife painter—an intimate observer of nature who has spent nearly 60 years studying the plants and animals of Vancouver Island’s forests, rivers, and shores.
Born and raised in the Alberni Valley, where he still lives today, Mike has had over 500 black bear encounters while fishing creeks and rivers, and has crossed paths with dozens of cougars while exploring the surrounding wilderness. His paintings are drawn directly from these lived experiences, each one a testament to his reverence for the delicate balance of the natural world.
Working in a hyper-realistic style, Mike captures the raw presence of wildlife with remarkable precision and care. Through his work, he hopes to inspire a deeper sense of stewardship for the wild places we call home.
